Privacy Policy

1. Overview

StrangerMeet is a privacy-first platform. We are designed from the ground up to collect as little data as possible. We do not require registration, email addresses, phone numbers, or any personally identifiable information to use our service — random chat, group chat, video chat and chat rooms work with no account at all. You may optionally create an account with an email address to use friends and direct messages; Section 2 sets out exactly what that stores.

2. Data We Collect

  • IP Address: Processed in memory only, for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Not stored to disk and not linked to chat content.
  • Socket ID: A randomly generated temporary session identifier used to route messages in real time. Discarded the moment you disconnect.
  • Chat Messages: Relayed directly between you and your match in real time. They are never written to any database and exist only in your browser for the duration of the chat.
  • Usage Analytics: Aggregate, anonymized statistics via Google Analytics (see Section 4). Never linked to chat activity.
  • Optional account data: if — and only if — you choose to create an account, we store your email address, a cryptographic hash of your password (never the password itself), and the nickname, age, gender and country you choose to share. Your email address is used to verify the account and for account emails. It is never shown to other users: people you chat with only ever see your nickname.
  • Approximate country (accounts only): when you sign in, our hosting provider tells us the two-letter country code your connection appears to come from. We store that country code and nothing else — your IP address is never written down. It helps us understand where the service is used and is, like everything else in this section, never shown to other users.
  • Pro purchases (accounts only): payments are handled by our crypto payment provider, NOWPayments, under its own privacy policy. We keep only a record linking the order to your account, the amount, and the payment's status — never your wallet's private keys or any card or bank details.
  • "Don't have crypto?" requests: if you ask us for another way to pay for Pro, we store the email address or Instagram/TikTok username you give us (requests made before 24 September 2026 may also hold a WhatsApp number), the payment method you pick, and the time — used only to contact you about paying, seen only by our team, and deleted on request.
  • Video calls: a video call is sent directly between the two browsers and is encrypted end to end. It does not pass through our servers, is never recorded, and we could not watch or store it even if we wanted to. Our server only relays the small technical messages the two browsers use to find each other, and those are discarded immediately. Your camera and microphone are only ever switched on after your browser asks you and you agree, and closing the page turns them off.
  • Video calls connect directly: a video call is sent straight between the two browsers, which is what keeps it fast. Because the connection is direct, each person's device can see the other's IP address — as on most video-calling apps. We never store it. When two connections cannot reach each other directly, the call instead passes through Cloudflare's relay servers, and in that case neither person sees the other's address. Either way the call carries encrypted media only — neither Cloudflare nor we can see or hear inside it — and nothing about it is written down beyond a count of calls and minutes, which is not linked to any person.
  • Evidence when somebody is reported: if another user reports you, we store a small record so a human can review it: the report category, which part of the site it came from, your approximate identifier (the IP the ban system already uses), your nickname at the time, and — so the report can actually be judged — up to your last 10 messages and the type and fingerprint of any files you had just sent. The files themselves are never stored; only a one-way fingerprint that lets us stop that exact file being sent again. These records are deleted after 30 days. Nothing is kept about people who are not reported.
  • Direct messages (accounts only): messages you send to a friend — including any photo, camera snap or voice note — are stored on our server so they can be delivered, and are automatically deleted 24 hours after being sent. Random chat, group chat and chat-room messages and media are still never stored at all.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect or Store

  • Your real name, phone number, or any government or payment identifier
  • Random chat, group chat, video chat and chat-room content — text, images, voice notes and video are relayed live and never written to a database
  • Video and audio from a video call — the call never touches our servers at all, so there is no recording, no copy, and nothing to hand over
  • Permanent chat logs or message history of any kind, including direct messages, which are deleted after 24 hours
  • Any personal data at all if you do not create an account — an account is entirely optional
  • Precise location — no GPS, and no IP address is stored. For account holders we keep only the country code described in Section 2; for everyone else, nothing at all

4. Cookies & Similar Technologies

  • Essential storage: we use functional browser storage for things like your dark/light mode preference and age confirmation.
  • Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage (pages visited, approximate region, device type). Google may set cookies for this purpose. This data is aggregated and is never linked to your chat activity or chat content.
  • Advertising: our site displays ads served by third-party advertising partners (such as Adsterra). These partners may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your interests. We do not share your chat content or any personal data with ad partners — any data they collect is governed by their own privacy policies.
  • You can control or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, and most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies entirely. The chat itself works fully with third-party cookies blocked.

5. Data Retention

Random chat, group chat, video chat and chat rooms: we operate with no message database. Chat content (text, images, voice, and video) is relayed through the server and discarded instantly — there is nothing to retain or delete later, because none of that content is ever written down. The one exception is a report: if another user reports you, a short extract of what you had just sent is saved with that report so it can be reviewed, and is deleted after 30 days (see Section 2). Images and video are never saved, even then.

Direct messages between friends: stored only so they can be delivered, and automatically deleted 24 hours after being sent — photos, camera snaps and voice notes included, on exactly the same schedule as the text. Removing someone from your friends list deletes your conversation with them, and everything shared in it, immediately.

Account data: kept for as long as the account exists. You can ask us to delete your account at any time using the contact address in Section 8, and deleting it removes your email address, password hash and profile.

6. Third Parties

We do not sell, share, or rent your personal data to any third party. Two categories of third-party services operate on the site: Google Analytics (aggregate usage statistics) and advertising partners such as Adsterra (ad serving and measurement). These services may collect data via cookies or similar technologies as described in Section 4, under their own privacy policies. Your chat content is never shared with them.

7. Children

StrangerMeet is strictly for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor is using the platform, contact us immediately.
