Free Chat Rooms: How to Join, Create and Moderate Them
Random chat is a slot machine - every pull is a different person. A chat room is the opposite: a place that stays put, with people who come back. Both are worth having, and StrangerMeet's rooms are free, need no account, and open in one click.
Country and topic rooms
Every room is public and listed with a live count of who is inside, so you can see where the conversation actually is before you join. Country rooms are the busiest - India, the USA, the UK, Pakistan, the Philippines - and they behave like a local pub: quiet in the morning, loud at night.
- Messages in a room stay for 24 hours, so walking in mid-evening does not mean walking into the middle of nothing.
- You can send text, photos and voice notes, and reply or react to any message.
- Tap somebody's name to open their profile - that is where reporting and adding a friend live.
- Favourite a room with the heart and it gets its own tab, so you do not have to hunt for the one you actually use.
Mentions, replies and reactions
In a room of thirty people, "yeah same" is meaningless. Type @ and pick a name to tag somebody - their client highlights it and makes a sound, so they will see it even if they had stopped reading. @everyone tags the whole room, and is rate-limited on purpose: it is the one thing a person can aim at fifty people at once.
Making your own room
Creating a room is the one paid part (a Pro feature); joining anyone else's room is free. A room you create is yours:
- Public or private - a private room needs an approved request to enter.
- Appoint moderators, who can kick and ban from that room.
- Ban for a bounded time - ten minutes up to seven days - or kick, which keeps somebody out for ten minutes.
- Nobody can ban the owner, and moderators cannot ban each other. Rename it whenever you like.
Rooms and their ban lists are saved, so a seven-day ban is genuinely seven days rather than "until the server restarts". If a Pro subscription ends, its rooms freeze rather than vanish - name, moderators and bans all kept - and open again the moment it is renewed.
Rooms, groups or one-on-one?
- Rooms - the same place and the same faces, day after day.
- Random group chat - 3 to 10 strangers, formed on the spot, gone when it empties.
- Random 1-on-1 - one stranger at a time, skip whenever you like.
Whichever you pick, the same content filter and the same Report button follow you into it - and the safety guide is worth five minutes before you share anything about yourself.
